SAFE-D 2024 On-Demand Training

SAFE-D has arranged to provide on-demand courses to allow ESD commissioners to obtain certified training on their own schedule. We have applied to Texas A&M V.G. Young's Institute of County Government to have the certified courses listed here accredited for ESD Commissioner Training Credit. These courses will expire Dec. 31, 2024. ABCs of ESDs (Click here to register)

This is an introductory course designed for persons who are just getting involved with Emergency Services Districts or for veterans who would like a refresher course. Students will get an overview of ESD issues. Texas A&M's V.G. Young Institute of County Government has certified this training for 2.5 hours of ESD Commissioner Training Credit. Ken Campbell-Ask Me Anything (Click here to register)

Longtime ESD Attorney Ken Campbell – who’s also a volunteer firefighter and ESD commissioner – sits down with SAFE-D to answer questions on legal issues that face Texas emergency services districts. This isn’t legal advice – districts will need to consult their own counsel for that – but it’s a broad-brush look at how to address legal topics that arise frequently for ESDs. Cost is only $75/representative of SAFE-D member ESD or affliated services provider; $125/nonmember. Noted Labor Law Attorney Judy Osborn helps ESDs navigate the minefields of sexual harassment and other sensitive employer-employee interactions in this important webcast. Texas A&M's V.G. SAFE-D Executive Director Clay Avery introduces some of the key concepts and methods for calculating and setting an ad valorem tax rate for Texas ESDs.
