SAFE-D On-Demand Training

To help ESD commissioners get their required training during this time of social distancing, SAFE-D has arranged to provide four courses for a total of 7 hours of certified training. Texas A&M V.G. Young's Institute of County Government has relaxed its interactivity requirements to all for these special courses. These courses expire Sept. 30, 2021. ABCs of ESDs (Click here to register)

This is an introductory course designed for persons who are just getting involved with Emergency Services Districts or for veterans who would like a refresher course. Students will get an overview of ESD issues. Texas A&M's V.G. Young Institute of County Government has certified this training for 2.5 hours of ESD Commissioner Training Credit. Laws that Affect ESDs (Click here)

Noted ESD Attorney Ken Campbell begins his discussion of laws that affect ESDs with a description of 2019's Senate Bill 2, which overhauled the way that ESDs set their tax rate each year. Recent Changes to Open Government Laws (Click here)

Representatives of the Texas Attorney General's office discuss changes to the open government laws coming out of the 2019 legislative session. Cost is only $75 for SAFE-D member ESDs and their affiliated service providers: $125/nonmembers. Texas A&M's V.G. Young institute of County Government has certified this training for one hour of ESD Commissioner Training Credit. Successful ESD Elections  (Click here)

Successful ESD elections require planning and commitment. A veteran of more than 40 ESD elections across the state discusses the steps to increase the probability that an ESD election will be successful. Texas A&M's V.G.
